“Once a president gets to the White House, the only audience that is left that really matters is history.” So wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin in 1985. Goodwin takes up this theme in an exclusive discussion with former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, in the inaugural session of HISTORYTalks, a daylong event featuring panel discussions on topics ranging from “A Check on Power: The Presidency and the Press” to “Women Changing the Conversation.” Other guests include Trevor Noah, Gloria Steinem, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and Ronan Farrow. —J.V.
