The world is now acquainted with both Hilma af Klint—the Swedish artist and mystic who was born in 1862 and died in 1944—and her prescient work: colorful abstract paintings that boldly evoke the cosmos and its geometries. In 1906, after communicating with spirits in her attic, af Klint began painting huge works, revolutionary in their scale and level of abstraction. In the fall of 1907, she set to work on a series called “The Ten Largest,” which she completed over the course of 40 days. These paintings, among her most important, are now on view in Paris alongside her “Temple Paintings.” —Elena Clavarino
