It’s not an exhibition about human hair—whether simple grooming or elaborate coiffure—without Léonard Autier, the hair stylist behind Marie Antoinette’s storied dos. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents the icons and iconography of hair history, from the Carita Sisters and Alexandre de Paris to Alexander McQueen and Martin Margiela. Over 600 works from the 15th century to the 2020s are organized into the themes of fashion, protest, femininity, virility, and negligence. And it’s not just hair on the head that tells the story. —Clara Molot
