Greta Hällfors-Sipilä was born in Helsinki in 1899. As a teenager, she began studies at the Finnish Art Association School. It was between classes that she met Sulho Sipilä, the quiet, sultry man who would become her husband. They gave each other the nicknames Tiva and Halle, and became inseparable. Together, they studied the masters of the Russian avant-garde and painted mundane scenes inspired by Kandinsky and Chagall. This exhibition of 60 works from different collections presents art from their lives as a radical couple. Letters, photographs, and other archival material are part of the show. —Elena Clavarino
