What is the Gray Center? It is a forum for arts inquiry at the University of Chicago. What is arts inquiry? A strategy and structure that brings artists and scholars together in projects, collaborations, and dream experiments. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Gray Center has launched the Gray Sound Sessions: free concerts streamed weekly on Tuesday evenings at eight P.M. Participating musicians and sound makers—Opera Povera, Seth Parker Woods, Daniel Whyche, and more—have been asked to reflect on the powerful role of music and sound in a rapidly changing world. In times of trouble, the ear is just as important—perhaps more important—than the eye. —E.C.
