“I see only forms that are lit up and forms that are not,” said Francisco de Goya. “There is only light and shadow.” In an exhibition of unprecedented breadth, the Museo del Prado features 300 of Goya’s drawings, pulled from collections world-wide, as well its own. The exhibition covers all the periods of Goya’s life, and the work is arranged geographically and thematically. Among the master’s leitmotifs are dreams, violence, witches, satire, follies, bulls and bullfighting, and the crowd. —E.C.
