In 2007, Glory Denied received its world premiere at the Brooklyn College Opera Theater, perhaps not the likeliest springboard to lasting success. Still, stories that must be told will make their way. Based on fact, Glory Denied traces the history of Col. Floyd James Thompson, America’s longest-held prisoner of war. Memories of his wife, Alyce, sustain him through nine years of confinement and torture. But she has suffered ordeals of her own and moved on. The cast consists solely of Tom and Alyce, in pre- and postwar avatars. The action runs a wrenching 75 minutes. —M.G.
