More mime, faster tempos, striking changes in both the mad scene and the ending—these are among the differences you will see in Pacific Northwest Ballet’s acclaimed production of Giselle, which it premiered in 2011. Company director Peter Boal, advised by the dance historians Doug Fullington and Marian Smith, drew from notations of the ballet made in the years 1899 to 1903 in St. Petersburg. The goal was to give this Giselle a narrative arc that’s closer to the 19th-century original—and more coherent. The production won raves. And in 2014, it also received new costumes and sets designed by Jérôme Kaplan. —Laura Jacobs
