Georgia O’Keeffe didn’t leave New York for New Mexico until she was 62, yet most of us envision her only in the desert, painting big skies and bleached skulls. This exhibition follows O’Keeffe from girlhood in Virginia to breakthrough in New York City to grandeur in old age, while looking at the way she expressed herself through clothing as well as through art. Indeed, it shows O’Keeffe constructing her image and creating a coherent holistic life. A ground-breaking show curated by Wanda M. Corn of Stanford University. —L.J.
