The artists in “Forging Territories” are African American and Latinx members of the LGBTX community. But what they “particularly have in common,” writes curator Rubén Esparza, “is participation in a queer cultural awakening and the talent to use art in depicting their journey.” All have faced prejudice, and yet whether established (Laura Aguilar, Alma López) or emerging, their work is unflinching, brazen, and beautiful. —J.V.
