I flew to Rome after Paris Couture last week to witness Maria Grazia Chiuri’s couture debut for Fendi, staged inside the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea. For Chiuri, a Roman, it was a homecoming in every sense: back in her city and at the house where she spent a formative decade before returning as Creative Director. Her vision favored precision over spectacle: fluid black-and-white caftans, liquid velvet gowns, elegant silk blouses, and, my favorite, an Art Deco–inspired beaded tunic over flowing trousers that felt effortless and formal all at once. —Rickie De Sole
