The dancer and choreographer Lia Rodrigues, who started her eponymous dance company in 1990 in Rio de Janeiro, rejects a world focused on “utility.” In Brooklyn, she’s presenting the U.S. premiere of Encantado, a work that takes its name from mythical creatures in Brazilian folklore. The production employs hundreds of colored blankets and the dancers move to an audio of Brazil’s Mbyá Guaraní people, recorded at a demonstration for land recognition. —Jensen Davis
