Elisabeth’s Frieberg’s canvases interweave layers of vibrant color, creating patterns and textures that have a rhythm much like aerial views of the Earth’s surface. This is no accident. The paintings were created with the bright lands of Tuscany, New Mexico, and Canada in mind, their burnt golds, color floes, and tracts of shadow. The works in this exhibition, the first since the bicycle accident that injured Frieberg’s right hand, were painted with her left. —E.C.
