Though most associate Ed Ruscha with Los Angeles, with California, and with its golden 1950s, the artist’s roots are in Oklahoma. Although he was born in Nebraska, Ruscha lived in Oklahoma City from the age of 5 to 18, and the place is a continuing presence in his art. Yet only now, at 83, is Ruscha having his first-ever solo museum exhibition in his home state. Seventy-four works from all phases of his career, and in many media, tell the story of his upbringing and artistic coming of age. A moving moment for both artist and audience! —E.C.
