Drive-in Dances

Sept 10 – Oct 11, 2020
2245 E. Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90021, United States

With the upcoming dance season stuck in uncertainty, Benjamin Millepied, artistic director of the L.A. Dance Project, has taken the bull by the horns and scheduled a limited fall season called “Drive-In Dances.” You simply come in your car (with up to six passengers) to the company parking lot. Two world-premiere dances will alternate during the run, each around 35 minutes. The first, Bobbi Jene Smith’s Solo at Dusk, is subtitled “A dance for seven individuals in the throes of loss, memory, and rediscovery.” The second, Jermaine Spivey and Spenser Theberge’s The Betweens, is described as an exploration of placement, replacement, and displacement. Both were created in collaboration with the company’s dancers, and not only do the dancers where masks, those masks are often a design element in the costuming. Only eight cars per performance, so book now! —L.J.
