In 1985, Eric Bogosian debuted Drinking in America, his third play. Set in the 1980s, the show is a collection of monologues about the feeling of power men experience when under the influence—a mastery of Truth while tripping on LSD; a newfound bravado when blackout drunk. Bogosian himself starred in the one-man show, cycling through a dozen personae. Here he’s a coked-up Hollywood agent; there, a strung-out New Jersey teen. Almost 40 years later the show returns to the stage for a four-week run. The production stars Andre Royo, best known for playing an informant on The Wire. —Jensen Davis
