Don McCullin: The Stillness of Life

July 1 – Sept 6, 2020

“Sometimes it felt like I was carrying pieces of human flesh back home with me, not negatives,” Don McCullin has said. “It’s as if you are carrying the suffering of the people you have photographed.” After years of capturing the anguished cries of soldiers in battle, the renowned war photographer finds solace in the tranquility of natural landscapes. In these moody, misty, distant, and yes, powerfully still panoramas, a new facet of this enigmatic photographer is revealed. —E.C.
