Devour the Land: War and American Landscape Photography since 1970

Sept 17, 2021 – Jan 16, 2022
32 Quincy St, Cambridge, MA 02138, USA

Our contemplation of war is dominated by the human tragedy—massacred young men, civilian deaths, orphaned children. We hardly seem to notice war’s profound environmental impact. Bombs, bullets, and land mines blow up animal habitats, destroy flora, and leave battered, muddy fields in their wake. The photographs in “Devour the Land” ponder that environmental damage. Dating from the 1970s up until the present day, the snapshots are divided into seven themed sections and include the work of 60 photographers. —E.C.
