In the late 1950s and early 60s, Lucio Fontana’s legacy paved the way for the spacial and temporal explorations of other Italian minimalists. Among these was Dadamaino (1930–2004), whose art was created in conversation with Fontana. “I have always loathed the material,” she said, “and have always sought the immaterial.” Seeking dynamism, Dadamaino’s sleek and carefully crafted aesthetic was constantly evolving. —E.C.
