“Remember,” says the monster that was created and then rejected by Dr. Frankenstein, “that I am thy creature: I ought to be thy Adam; but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. Every where I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded.” As follow-up to the sensational Giselle that Akram Khan choreographed in 2016 for the English National Ballet, the company premieres Khan’s new full-length work, Creature. Based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the gothic novel that celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2018, and Georg Büchner’s expressionist classic Woyzeck, Khan’s ballet looks at the isolation of the outsider, and the rage that grows in the absence of hope. —L.J.
