Conrad Tao, Piano

November 20, 2019
881 7th Ave, New York, NY 10019, USA

As a piano student at The Juilliard School, Conrad Tao, who also played violin, was already the talk of the town. Still in his mid 20s, he continues to collect glittering prizes. Happily, his head seems to be screwed on straight, and his pursuit not of celebrity but of artistic challenge continues—as this program at Weill Recital Hall confirms, with Bach and Rachmaninoff jostling the Americans David Lang, Elliott Carter, Julia Wolfe, and Jason Eckhardt in a runup to the grand finale, Robert Schumann’s fantastic Kreisleriana. —M.G.
