The latest play by Lynn Nottage, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama, is set at a truck-stop sandwich shop. Staffed by formerly incarcerated people, the workers at Clyde’s often clash with the owner, a callous woman intent on keeping them in her kitchen. The staff finds solidarity in sandwiches—specifically, their dream of creating the perfect sandwich. This shared goal proves more difficult to achieve than they imagined. The comedy, which premiered on Broadway in November 2021, heads to Washington, D.C. Dee Dee Batteas stars as Clyde. Candis C. Jones directs. —Jensen Davis
