During the interwar years, Paris was the place where artists, writers, and filmmakers from around the world gathered, exchanged ideas, and laid the groundwork for modernism. Among them were Asian artists such as the elusive Singaporean painter Georgette Chen; Yun Gee, a Kaiping-born artist working under the patronage of Prince and Princess Achille Murat; and Lê Phổ, a Vietnamese master of the still life. Their work in the City of Light is the subject of this exhibition in Singapore. —Elena Clavarino
