Between 1904 and 1914, a search for social and spiritual freedom led artists from around the world to the cobblestones and cafés of Paris. Among those arriving were Jewish artists, male and female, who came from Europe and the Russian Empire. This gathering in one place by artists seeking creative liberation is known as the School of Paris. The new exhibition at MAHJ explores the “School,” presenting works from many pioneers, including Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutine, and Amedeo Modigliani. —E.C.
