Robert O’Hara’s Bootycandy debuted Off-Broadway in 2014 and unfolds over 11 nonlinear scenes. The semi-autobiographical comedy focuses on a character named Sutter and his trials growing up Black and gay. Set to pop music—including many songs by Michael Jackson and Prince—the show sees Sutter navigating family, church, the New York City theater scene, and nursing homes. Gate Theatre hosts this U.K. debut. —Jensen Davis
