The author and illustrator Raymond Briggs is known for some of England’s most enduring children’s classics—Father Christmas (1973) and The Snowman (1978) are just two. His books endure because they carry important themes: the heroism in ordinary lives; compassion, war, and the environment. Briggs died in 2022, at 88, in Sussex, where he spent four decades at the same little desk, writing and drawing while overlooking his garden. This exhibition presents 100 original artworks from Briggs’s 60-year career, as well as 30 objects from his estate. —Elena Clavarino
