Beloved by Picasso

Oct 12, 2019 – Feb 23, 2020
Skovvej 100, 2635 Ishøj, Denmark

“The work one creates is just another way of keeping a diary,” said Pablo Picasso in 1932. The choreographer George Balanchine, when pressed to explain his heart, said something similar: “It’s all in the programs.” I don’t doubt the filmmaker Ingmar Bergman was on the same page. Back in the day, many male artists found their creative energy, their heat, in the desire they felt for a woman (or man)—their muse. This exhibition looks at the priapic Picasso’s models and muses, a serial monogamy that spurred his ever evolving style. —L.J.
