In the 2005 book In a Queer Time and Space, Jack Halberstam argues that queer subcultures, in welcoming alternative life goals and ambitions, offer possibilities outside “those paradigmatic markers of life experience—namely, birth, marriage, reproduction, and death.” With the recent Supreme Court decision that protects the rights of LGBT workers, America moves closer to acceptance. This exhibition features works that recall the pervasive sense of alienation felt by many in trans and queer communities. It also illuminates the universal importance of connection in our current moment and in our imagined futures. —C.J.F.
