This Stravinsky triptych consists of The Firebird, Pétrouchka, and The Rite of Spring, all commissioned for Serge Diaghilev’s fabled Ballets Russes and premiered in Paris. As the young Norwegian maestro Klaus Mäkelä has repeatedly proven, these supercharged, gaudy scores can bring the house down without benefit of visual stimuli. Nevertheless, they will be offered Fantasia-style this time. Watch for new videos from the film artists Rebecca Zlotowski, Bertrand Mandico, and Evangelia Kranioti, whose marching orders were carte blanche. —Matthew Gurewitsch
