Asher Liftin: Error Signals

Asher Liftin, Ballerina and Wrestler, 2023

Nov 2 – Dec 16, 2023
62 Crosby St, New York, NY 10012

Robert Storr, the former dean of the Yale School of Art, calls Asher Liftin’s upcoming show—his first with Nino Mier Gallery and his first solo exhibition in New York—“startlingly sophisticated.” The artist, who is in his mid-20s, graduated from Yale in 2021. Since then he has had four solo exhibitions and has sold pieces to major art collectors. Known for his machine-like dexterity, Liftin brings art history into the technological age. While some of his pieces look more classical, others strike the viewer as distorted and disorienting. The artist’s background in cognitive science comes as no surprise when looking at his new pointillist paintings, which he made using layered ink glazes. “Error Signals” displays Liftin’s focused attention, an increasingly rare quality in the world we know today. —Jeanne Malle
