How does sound operate in society? It’s a question Christine Sun Kim has been exploring her entire life. Born profoundly deaf to hearing parents, in 1980, Kim was raised in Southern California and learned early to navigate multiple modes of communication. Her work—in the mediums of drawing, video, performance, music, and graphic notation—explores communication through sign language, body language, and visual scores. This exhibition features Kim’s new mural and sounds installation Community Sigh (2025). She hopes that as we experience it, we’ll begin to think about meaning, and how it it conveyed? —Elena Clavarino
