The Arts Intel Report

Anteroom

June 22 – July 25, 2020
1024 N Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029, United States

“We call it the most exclusive screening room in Hollywood,” says Aaron Peasley, one of the curators of a new exhibition at The Lodge, an old-school artists’ enclave owned by Ed Ruscha, who had his first studio there. “Anteroom” is a kind of anti-gallery exhibition that sees art rotating in and out, furniture inviting visitors to stay awhile, and curated films projected daily. Rotating “in” this month? Seungjin Yang’s “Blowing Series” armchair. A limited-edition lithograph of Ben Affleck in a mask by Simon Haas. And movies fitting of the times—Sunset Boulevard, Falling Down, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. These days the gallery is a breath of life among closed storefronts: visitors are invited inside by appointment or are welcome to observe from the street. The collection can also be viewed online, on the Gallery Platform LA Web site. —J.V.
