American Ballet Theatre Fall 2021 Season

Oct 20–31, 2021
20 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, NY 10023, USA

American Ballet Theatre’s two-week fall season begins with a week of Giselle that includes three debuts as the eponymous peasant girl turned Wili: Skylar Brandt on October 21, and on the 23rd Cassandra Trenary (matinee) and Christine Shevchenko (evening). There are debuts as well in the role of Albrecht, the nobleman who pretends he’s a peasant: Thomas Forster, Calvin Royal III, and Aron Bell. The second week offers an assortment of repertory that includes a world premiere by Jessica Lang, ZigZag, set to songs recorded by Tony Bennett. And then there’s Antony Tudor’s incomparable Pillar of Fire (1942). On October 29, Devon Teuscher debuts as Hagar, an ardent young woman who thinks she will never know love. The don’t-miss casting is Gillian Murphy (October 28 and 31), a mature ballerina who’s deepened her dancing of Hagar over the years and brings huge technical and emotional resources to the role. —L.J.
