Alicja Kwade: Surrounded by Universes

Dec 10, 2021 – Jan 22, 2022
262 Itaewon-ro, Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Order and entropy, time and chance, these are the concepts that intrigue the Polish-German artist Alicja Kwade, born in 1979. “I’m fascinated with the borders between science and suspicion,” Kwade told ArtReview in 2013. “All the in-betweens. Mr Houdini is one of my biggest heroes.” A sense of the universe, of eternal geometries and everyday organic matter, is implicit in her sculptures, which seem to focus on the ungraspable. In a double exhibition between Pace Gallery and König Seoul, more than 30 recent works are presented in Kwade’s first solo shows in Korea. Also featured is a new series of her watch-hand works on paper. —L.J.
