“A fresh story freshly told,” writes the New York Times critic Jesse Green about A Woman Among Women. This new play by Julia May Jonas is part of her series “All Long True American Stories,” which takes male-centric 20th-century narratives and rewrites them for our modern demographic. Here she springboard’s off Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, which now unfolds in present-day Massachusetts rather than 1940s Ohio. The characters, progressive and diverse, include Cleo, the founder of a small women’s center, and her daughters Grace, an anxious 36-year-old eager to please, and Jo, who is in prison for violently assaulting a man. When Grace develops feelings for her neighbor, things begin to unravel. Directed by Sarah Hughes, the play is staged at the Bushwick Starr’s new theater. Expect singing and audience participation. —Jeanne Malle
