Who nowadays is caught off guard by what Nora does at the end of A Doll’s House? Yet early word on the latest Broadway production of the play, adapted by Amy Herzog and featuring Jessica Chastain, has it that the staging of the ending, and a good deal else, is eye-opening. Prepare to see Ibsen made new again. Chastain too. Though she’s known mainly for film roles, her theatrical roots are showing here; she took refuge in stage work early on and was trained in the Juilliard School’s drama program. —John E. Branch Jr.
