Great artists tend to end in simplicity, but some artists seek it from the start, satisfying both eye and mind with the humble furnishings in their own studios, the artifacts that serve them daily. The 20th-century Italian painter Giorgio Morandi was one of these. This exhibition looks at his seemingly simple still lifes—bottles, vases, and boxes—and places them among the Old Master paintings whose influence they contain. —L.J.
