1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair

Feb 22–23, 2020
Avenue Bab Jdid، Marrakesh 40040, Morocco

Established in 2013 as an international fair devoted to art from Africa and its diaspora, and with editions in London and New York, 1-54, in 2018, launched in Marrakech, a city where the meeting of East and West, of Africa and Europe, is so real you can touch it. Now in its third edition, 1-54 Marrakech features 20 leading galleries—from Johannesburg-based Afronova to Cairo’s Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art—and more than 65 artists. The fair also sees the launch of AFRƎEculture, a new cultural platform offering screenings and panel discussions, as well as collaborations with local museums such as the Musée Yves Saint Laurent and the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden, where a new exhibition, opening February 25, asks Yoko Ono’s enduring question, “Have You Seen a Horizon Lately?” —J.V.

If you can’t make it to Marrakech, 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair’s sixth New York edition will run from May 8 to 10 at the Caldwell Factory.
