In a monotone, disembodied voice that could have been designed by AI, the woman behind a black screen on my laptop says hello and tells me that I too should turn off my camera. If this is what it takes to score the latest wave of injectables sweeping the internet, so be it. Can I really call myself a wellness fanatic if I haven’t at least investigated the wild west of peptides?

Before my 30-minute, $207 consultation with Jessica Alana, the founder of the Nuutro clinic in Mayfair, London, I filled out a brief form detailing my medical history, explaining that I wanted to sleep better and to have more energy. Alana, who has a degree in biomedical sciences and an MSc in longevity science, shows me some studies and rattles off reams of facts. None of it makes sense to me. She tells me not to worry because our chat will be summarized by AI. At this point, I seriously wonder if Alana is even a real person. Although she does have an Instagram page full of pouty selfies.
