Hindsgaul Hair

Does it seem as if some of the finest hair-care products—Harklinikken, Hairlust, Natulique, Gosh—come from Denmark, with a fidelity to simple ingredients, scalp health, and minimalistic packaging? A new line, Hindsgaul, sounds and looks Danish, but it’s made in California. The reason for the confusion: Sarah Hindsgaul, the founder (and lead hairstylist on Stranger Things), arrived in the U.S. from Copenhagen. Her handsome products adhere to the Danish ethos of clean design and ingredients, including Nordic cotton and cloudberry. I love the Scrub shampoo, which gives the scalp an invigorating exfoliation with a creamy lather. The mousse is buoyant but not sticky. And the dry shampoo has a sponge puff on top to release the formula exactly where you want it. The line brings together the best of both worlds. (Starting at $32, hindsgaulhair.com)

Guerlain: L’Art & La Matière Soaps

I get a little weak over a beautiful bar of scented soap. I’ll put out fresh bars for guests and slip a wrapped one in my luggage to make everything smell less like the stale plane cargo and more like a spring garden. My current preoccupations are the new soaps from Guerlain, six bars that are faceted like a cushion-cut diamond. Each is generously oversized and comes in a scent from the house’s L’Art & La Matière collection, including vanilla, bergamot, iris, and rose. I’ll reserve them for guests; they’re far too beautiful for my hands. ($55, guerlain.com)
