The first thing Ashley Miller noticed after taking a GLP-1 was that the “food noise” had disappeared: She wasn’t obsessing about snacks anymore. Fantastic. But as she lost weight, here’s what did appear: Loose skin. Lots of it.
Miller, 43, had struggled with overeating for years, eventually reaching 320 pounds. In 2012, she opted for stomach-shrinking gastric-sleeve surgery. Initially, she lost 100 pounds. But the interesting thing about this surgery is that while you can’t eat much at one sitting, Miller explains, “you can still eat every hour on the hour”—which is what she did. At five feet ten, she had climbed back to about 300 pounds when she made a decision: Fine, maybe I’ll always be overweight, but at least I don’t have to keep this double chin.
