Winter Jazzfest

Jan 8–18, 2020

Winter in New York: petrified snow besmirching the curb, fingers of sunlight struggling to reach the street, and one of the world’s most stimulating (and politically fervent) jazz festivals. For an inkling of its riches, consider that just one its three marathons includes, among more than 50 acts, Robert Glasper, Marquis Hill, Becca Stevens, Makaya McCraven, Lakecia Benjamin’s tribute to the music of the Coltrane family, and Uri Caine’s stirring, gospel-infused oratorio, The Passion of Octavius Catto. —E.E.
