The British painter Anj Smith is inspired by Sappho, the ancient Greek poet who wrote eerie love odes. Smith’s art is equally haunting, her dainty, apocalyptic landscapes populated by thin women with zombie complexions. This solo show holds paintings new and old—but only eight (Smith’s response to today’s “fast-paced consumption”). The gallery has tapped spatial designer Robert Storey to illuminate Smith’s ethereal world. —Jensen Davis
