When South African artist Nobukho Nqaba was in art school, she “made a pinhole camera from a box,” she said in a 2015 interview, “and it was amazing seeing the pictures come to life in the darkroom. This liberated me from the belief I had that painting and drawing were the only forms of art.” Since then, Nqaba has used the camera’s lens to look at migration, movement, and otherness. At the Zeitz exhibition the artist reflects on her own coming of age. —J.V.
