In the 1970s, the Swiss photographer Walter Pfeiffer was a young man and a pillar of Zurich’s counterculture. His controversial subject? Gay sex. But he was not without other interests. Over the course of his practice, he’s produced still lifes and landscapes, and creates mood with playful arrangements and poetic juxtapositions. Pfeiffer, age 76, is now receiving his first institutional survey in the U.S. Photographs, drawings, videos, and collages are organized chronologically, and span six decades. —Elena Clavarino
