Each autumn, Vienna gets a renovation, thanks to its annual Design Week. As geographically sprawling as it is multifaceted, the festival merges furniture, industrial design, and architecture with cutting-edge innovations in graphic and digital design. Last year’s successful Virtual Reality focus prompted a new permanent feature—2019 inaugurates the Game and Graphic Lab. Collaborations between Austrian designers, artisans, and craftsmen are highlighted in Passionwege. And Focus District, which spotlights a Viennese neighborhood each year, celebrates densely populated Alsergrund. Finland, famous for its elegant design approach, is 2019’s Guest Country. —C.J.F.
