The annual Winter Show at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, now 71 years old, is widely considered the crème de la crème of America’s art, antiques, and design fairs. Spread out across the Armory space, over 70 international exhibitors present works that span 5,000 years. The show’s Opening Night benefit for East Side House is January 23, when visitors wear black tie and fancy dress, sip cocktails, and listen to live jazz. On January 31, AIR MAIL’s Arts Intel Report editor, Laura Jacobs, will be moderating a talk with F.I.T.’s Patricia Mears and the jewelry specialist Ruth Peltason. Titled “The Beauty of Restraint: Paris and the Empresses of Design,” the panel will explore how tastemakers such as Jeanne Lanvin and Sophie Taeuber-Arp shaped modernism in Paris during the rise of Art Deco. —Elena Clavarino
