Traditionally, quilts are made of three layers: a decorative top, a soft middle made of batting, and a lining on the bottom. The five artists exhibiting in Craft Contemporary’s latest show go beyond that simple formula by folding, wrapping, cutting, and reconstructing these layers. The pieces on view include Jade Yumang’s quilted sculptures; blankets by Carlos Spivey, decorated with hand-painted figures; and works by Kathryn Clark, Lavialle Campbell, and Sabrina Gschwandtner. —Jensen Davis
