The angst and heartbreak of a crumbling marriage can be difficult to watch. Thankfully, The Roses takes the opposite approach, turning the story of Theo and Ivy Rose’s self-destruction into a blistering satire. Starring two of today’s most respected English actors—Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock) and Olivia Colman (The Crown, Fleabag)—the film begins with Theo, a successful architect, suffering a public humiliation at the opening of his latest construction. Ivy’s restaurant, however, is just starting to take off, and soon she is the primary income earner. Resentment blossoms and the couple spirals. Directed by Jay Roach of Bombshell and Austin Powers. —Alice Browne
