Colombian culture and history comes to LACMA in full force in “The Portable Universe.” This exhibition of over 400 works emphasizes the variety and versatility of Colombian art, and brings the past into the present by framing ancient artifacts with modern Indigenous modes of thought. LACMA curators have collaborated closely with the spiritual leaders of the Arhuaco people, who live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, further promoting the message of cultural respect and appreciation. —Thalia Bonas
